Everything has a mother in the forest.

(But who takes care of her? Does the forest have a mother?)

A Mãe da Mata (The mother of the forest), by Maickson Serrão and Chico Santos, is a book about an important Enchanted Being of the Amazon Rainforest, the Curupira.

Maickson explains, "For us, riberinhos and indigenous people of the region, The Enchanted Beings exist. We believe in them, we ask them for protection, we fear them and, sometimes, we even notice their presence. They are the ones who teach us to respect the forest and the secrets it holds”. In the case of the Curupira, she is one of the most important Enchanted Beings, the one who takes care of everything that is born and lives in the forest. So, it is good to know the Curupira, and, if you go into the forest, always remember to ask for her permission.
