Thousandtears, or Milágrimas, is a famous lyrics by poet Alice Ruiz, with music by Itamar Assumpção and sung by Zélia Duncan, Ná Ozzetti, Anelis Assumpção, and Alzira E., among so many strong women. Now Thousantears has become a picturebook by Luli Penna.

Zélia Duncan, one of the female voices to whom the book is dedicated, says that Thousandtears “is one of those lyrics that have always been some place. Predestined to exist within us, penned by someone ”. The singer says: “It had to be written by a woman, by an Alice. A one and only Alice Ruiz.

The authors

Alice Ruiz S is a poet, haiku writer, lyricist, translator, and advertising professional. She has published more than 20 books of poetry, in addition to participating in numerous anthologies. Her works have earned her significant accolades, including the Jabuti Award in 1989 and 2009. Alice has also formed musical partnerships, as well as long-standing friendships and collaborations with artists such as Itamar Assumpção, Arnaldo Antunes, Zeca Baleiro, Zélia Duncan, Alzira E, Chico César, José Miguel Wisnik, Iara Rennó, Ná Ozzetti, Luiz Tatit, Estrela Leminski, João Suplicy, and Rogéria Holtz.

Luli Penna was born in São Paulo in 1965. She graduated in Literature from USP and, after completing a master's degree and part of a doctoral program, decided to become an illustrator. Since then, she has worked with various magazines, publishers, and the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper. After years of illustrating, she missed writing and became a cartoonist. In 2017, she released her first graphic novel, Sem Dó (No Mercy) (Todavia Publishing).
