Is it possible to say the event?

It is with this phrase by Jacques Derrida that one enters On the road, a poem by Geruza Zelnys illustrated/embroidered by Liliana Pardini. The epigraph and credits are the only words inserted into the book afterward, in digital form. The entire main text was embroidered by Liliana, who has over 30 artist’s books published, during the process of illustrating Geruza’s poem.

"Na Estrada was not a planned book; it happened to me like a fog. In it, I now catch a kind of origin of my entire poetic project: the ‘middle place’ where everything began, both forward and backward; the place where a meaningful experience was inscribed," says Geruza.

To capture the poetic essence of the text, Liliana realized she would need to embroider "the reverse" of the story, what was hidden. For this reason, she created the book in an accordion format, through which the reader goes and then comes back. Let it be, paying attention to what is in the middle.

The Authors

I am Geruza Zelnys, daughter of my events. Later, a poet, writer, teacher, and researcher. I have published several books in different genres and for different audiences. In 2014, I idealized and created the Creative Writing course, in which I dedicate myself to studying writing as events, investigating the marks of trauma and its creative potential in the search for an authorial voice.

The artist Liliana Pardini, who, in her creations of the book, blends writing, drawing, collage, and embroidery, in an effort to "listen" and "give body" to ideas. She has written books and artist’s books, both individually and in collaboration, and has exhibited her works in São Paulo, Piracicaba, Campinas, Brasília, Naples, Sicily, and Barcelona. I am sure she remembers what I said when I invited her to illustrate the book: "Lili, I only think of you to deliver this text. Do whatever you want with it." Nothing more was said about any previous story. And, still, moved by her sensitivity and talent, Lili embroidered the reverse.
