Layla Cruz's debut picture book is as fun as learning to say its title out loud. In it, a gray and dull world repeats itself, page after page, as if we were watching the street through the window and nothing was happening. There is only a discreet hint that everything can be much more fun, but not all the characters can see it. Only a little girl realizes the possible adventure and (literally) dives into the fun.

The author

My name is Layla Cruz and I like to say that I am an artist-educator because it was in the world of education that I found myself as an artist. I was born in São Paulo, the capital, and I have always loved drawing.

So much so that, to celebrate my 2nd birthday, my parents covered my entire room in paper — from the floor to the walls — so that I could draw along with the guests. Later, I graduated in Visual Arts at Unesp, and today I work as an educator, workshop leader and illustrator.

About puddles, oh, I always thought it was beautiful to look at the reflection and be able to see the sky at our feet.

“Tchibum Plim Splash” is my first book.
