This book celebrates bare feet, hands in the soil, and all the life around us, a source of so many lessons. It thus exalts the beauty of the curious, sensitive wisdom of children, who are experts in nature’s counsel. For they have not yet forgotten that one learns how to live by walking with enthusiasm and spontaneous interest.

The author

Vitor Bellicanta. I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, spending my time swimming in the sea, walking through the forest, and diving in the river. My proximity to such lush nature sparked an enduring fascination with the wisdom and beauty of the universe, from the ant carrying a leaf home, the delicacy and perfection with which birds build their nests, and the turtle that navigates distant oceans its whole life only to return to its birthplace to lay eggs, to the trees that shape themselves by following the sunlight, and so much more.

This book celebrates all forms of wisdom and everything we can learn from them. To create the illustrations, I used India ink, watercolor, a digital drawing tablet, and Krita software.

I am an illustrator, writer, designer, and agroecologist. I won the inaugural FILEX Award and was a semifinalist for the Jabuti and National Library awards. I also received recognition in the Ibero-American Illustration Catalog and the BRAW Amazing Bookshelf section at the Bologna Children's Book Fair for the book Submersos, also published by Editora Caixote.
